The University of Pittsburgh's Global Studies Program was established in 2001 as a joint project of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), under then-UCIS Director William Brustein and then-GSPIA Dean Carolyn Ban.
