Erasmus Mundus Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) Scholarship 2027

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master European Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG), a 2-year Master course taught in English. EMABG students spend their studies at two of the six Consortium universities.

The domain of animal breeding and genetics has undergone a revolution in the recent decade. The availability of high throughput genomic markers as well as phenotypic data from automated recording systems resulted in dramatic change in the understanding of genetic mechanisms and in the way livestock and aquaculture species are bred. The European Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG), a 2-year Master course, responds to a sharply increased demand of industry and academia for people very well skilled in reflecting and dealing with this kind of data.

Aim and Benefits of Erasmus Mundus Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) Scholarship

EMJM Scholarship – 1400€ per month (for 24 months)*

* There are limited number of scholarships per intake (around 15).

Tuition fees and insurance are covered by programme.

Scholarships are meant to cover food, accommodation, travel costs and visa.

Please note that students …

• students who have receive a EMJM scholarships already, are not eligible;
• cannot receive subsistence costs in their country of residence (at the time of their application);
• have to pre-finance their travel expenses to the first year university or university where the Welcome Course takes place;
• will receive the payment on their European bank account AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL;
• have to cover their own accommodation costs during the Welcome Course, Summer School or Graduation Event.

• Animal Biodiversity and Genomics

Requirements for Erasmus Mundus Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) Scholarship Qualification

• Academic Bachelor of Science Degree (minimum 180 ECTS) in animal science

  For graduates of other relevant bachelor’s programmes, mastery of the following learning outcome:

  • Knowledge and skills in the basics of agricultural sciences and animal production: mathematics/biostatistics/bioinformatics, zoology/anatomy/physiology of farm animals, biodiversity/breeding, genetics/genomics.

  Applicants who already hold a MSc degree in a similar field of studies, cannot be accepted at University of Goettingen.

• English Language Proficiency

  Students must submit one of the following English tests:

  TOEFL IBT: at least 92 (minimum of 23 in the sub-score “speaking”)

  • TOEFL paper based or ITP cannot be accepted
  • TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition can be accepted but students might have to take another test for their second year university.

  ACADEMIC IELTS: at least 7 (minimum of 6.5 in the sub-score “speaking”)

  • IELTS online test and IELTS One Skill Retake are not accepted

  CAMBRIDGE CAE/C1 Advanced: score between 180-210, Grade C

  CAMBRIDGE CPE/C2 Proficiency: score between 180-230 or Grade C

  The language proficiency certificates should have been taken no longer than two years before the application deadline.

  OR

  Applicants who have completed their Bachelor or Master Degree in one of the following countries do not need to submit an English language proficiency certificate:

  •  Australia, Ireland, Canada (except those educated at universities in Quebec), New Zealand, United Kingdom, United States of America.
  • Only if: 1. The programme was conducted completely in the English language; 2. The programme was not part of a double degree programme where part of the programme was conducted in a different country; 3. The programme must have been a on campus programme.
  • Applicants from these countries should upload their passport (again) in the specific section in the application database.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Erasmus Mundus Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) Scholarship

Selection Procedure

Students will be selected jointly each year for the 2-year programme by the EMABG selection committee during the annual meeting approx. 1 mont after the application deadline. All complete applications that meet the admission criteria will be considered in the student selection. The eligible applications will be evaluated according to four selection criteria:

• 50% Diploma/Transcript of Records (20% Academic Excellence – grades and GPA + 30% Academic Relevant Background for EMABG – are the past BSc courses relevant to the EMABG. Genetics/genomics, biostatistics/bioinformatics/mathematics, biodiversity/breeding.)
• 20% Motivation Video (What are we looking for) – Score the motivation in the video, indicating the personal interest and experience. Not only general information from the website or AI. “PERSONAL MOTIVATION”, max 2min, MP4, max 50MB.
• 20% CV (Related to age) – BSc no job as such, more like other activities – internships or something – that show interest in subject. MSC work experience.
• 10% Recommendation Letter

Each application is evaluated according to the selection criteria, with scoring in the range of 1 (worst) to 10 (best). The partial scores are weighted based on the final score shares and summed up. Based on these evaluations a provisional ranking is produced. Whenever two or more applicants have the same score, the one with higher academic excellence will be placed first. The selection procedure will aim to maintain geographical and gender balance and will apply equal-opportunity principles.

In most cases we can only select a maximum of 2 candidates per country to maintain cultural and geographic diversity.

We do not hold selection interviews.

Appeal Procedure for Rejected Candidates

Students have the right to appeal against the decision on the rejection of application for a scholarship/acceptance to EMABG, if they believe that their application has not been treated fairly. In this case the applicant must duly justify their reasons for appeal using the appeal form available under this link. The form must be signed and needs to be sent (together with any applicable supporting documents) via E-mail to [email protected] within 10 days after notification of the selection results. The EMABG Consortium will review the candidate and reply within 14 days after receiving the appeal, with an explanation and, if applicable, a change in decision-making.

Please note that we receive a high number of applications for EMJM scholarships and competition is very high.

In case of questions regarding the selection procedure, you can also contact the EMABG Central Office instead of sending an appeal.

Documents must be submitted in .pdf format.

Diploma/Certificate of degree

• BSc or BSc merged with MSc (if applicable) certificate providing the obtained degree – must be issued by the university where the degree was obtained, and dated, signed and stamped, otherwise it will not be considered valid. Please add an English translation (in one single document) if your documents are not in English.
• Students from China (https://www.aps.org.cn/zh/) , Mongolia (https://ulan-bator.diplo.de/mn-de/themen/kultur/-/2076494) and Vietnam (https://vietnam.diplo.de/) need to add the APS certificate to confirm the originality of their documents. Please also send this certificate to [email protected] before the application deadline.

Transcript of records

• BSc or BSc and MSc (if applicable) transcript of records. Must be issued by the university, stating in detail all courses taken and grades obtained, as well as a grading scale and average grade. Don’t forget to check the backside. This document must be dated, signed and stamped, otherwise it will not be considered valid. Please note that you must upload the transcript of records regarding all the years of your course. Please add an English translation if your documents are not in English. • The page containing your personal details and photo.

Certificate of current residence

The certificate of residence must be in English language or translated to English and can be any of the following:

• a residence certificate issued in accordance with your municipality’s registration rules
• your national ID, which must be dated and state your current address or merged with a document (e.g. electricity bill) that lists your name and address
• a certificate from your place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question. This certificate has to be dated and signed.

The document must have been issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of applying for an EMJM student scholarship.

Curriculum Vitae

• preferably in Europass format;
• with special emphasis on the duration of employment/additional training, including educational career, working experience, publications, title of research projects/theses. If applicable, any other information of relevance is very much welcome.

Photo

• Your face should be clearly visible on the photo.

Language certificate

• Copy of an official language certificate attesting language skills in English, as described in section on admission requirements.

Letter of preferred study tracks

• Please indicate your preferred 3 study tracks in your letter e.g. NMBU-SLU, NMBU-WUR, NMBU-APT, NMBU-UGOE or NMBU-BOKU.
• Please note that this is not a letter of motivation, just describe why you would like to study in those study tracks.

2 Letters of recommendation

• from two different persons (previous professors or employers). The letters must mention your name.

Video of the motivation

• As a mandatory part of the application, you are required to create a 1- to 2-minute video explaining why you would like to be part of this programme. MP4, max 50MB. The title should be ONLY your application number. Please upload the video here.
