2026 Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship for Developing Countries

The Austrian Development Cooperation offers scholarships:

  • for students from ADC’s priority countries
  • for students from other developing countries

Scholarships are awarded for the Diploma Course of the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management.

The Diploma Course includes:
1.) A General Module
2.) A Professional Module: Hospitality Management or Tourism Management
3.) An Elective: Entrepreneurship or Teacher Training

(ADC) forms part of Austrian foreign policy, with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) as the operational unit of the ADC. ADC aims at reducing poverty, preserving the environment and promoting peace and human security in partner countries. Aim and Benefits of Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship

  • Tuition fee
  • Course material
  • Health insurance
  • Food on school days
  • Excursions and social events
  • Monthly pocket money
  • Partial costs of accomodation

Not included in the scholarship:

  • Accomodation: Accomondation costs have to be covered partially by students who are awarded this scholarship.
    The total fee (deposit and accomodation fee of € 1.500,- in total) has to be remitted in advance before the admission letter can be issued.
  • Flight ticket: Students have to cover their own travel expenses from their countries to Salzburg and back.
  • Visa fee: The visa fee has to be paid by the applicants. The fee for the 8 month residence permit is €160.
    The fees for the entry visa (Visa D) are different, please contact your embassy for detailed information.

Requirements for Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship Qualification

ADC priority countries: limited places are reserved for applicants from the following countries:

  • Ethiopia
  • Uganda
  • Burkina Faso
  • Mozambique
  • Palestinian Territories
  • Georgia
  • Armenia
  • Moldova

Further scholarships are available for all developing countries listed on the OECD DAC List.

Please note that there is an age limit of 35 years for eligibility.



Interview date, Process and Venue for Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship

 

Important Dates:

  • Deadline for the submission of application form: January 6, 2026
  • Beginning of Courses: September 7, 2026
  • Visa Application: You can start with the Visa application process right after receiving the letter of acceptance in April 2026 at the latest.
  • Planned duration of the Diploma Course: September 7, 2026 – May  30, 2027

How to Apply

Limited number of scholarships are offered every year by the Austrian Development Cooperation. Please be aware that being offered a scholarship is not automatic and very competitive.

Procedure: 

  1. Get information about ITH on the website or from an Austrian consulate or embassy
  2. Collect all relevant documents and submit your application via the web application form at www.ith-salzburg.at (available from September 2025 to January 6, 2026).
  3. You will receive a confirmation by email that you application has been received and processed.
  4. You will be informed about the result of your application in April 2026 at the latest. If you are awarded a scholarship you will receive a letter of acceptance.

Tips for a succesful scholarship application:

  • Fill out the online application form properly.
  • Make sure you supply all the required information and attach the entire required documents.
  • Send translated English or German documents if required.
  • Check your email regularly and included a working e-mail address and phone number
  • Apply on time. Applications after 6th January 2026 will not be processed.
  • Provide all admission requirements (read the ITH application information and visa process carefully).
  • Clarify any doubts with the ITH office and Austrian embassy/consulate
  • In your motivation letter and video make clear why you are interested in the program and why you should receive a scholarship
  • Only complete and appropriate applications will be considered.
