The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program provides full scholarships in partnership with the American University of Beirut (AUB). The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program aims to prepare young people to be agents of change in their communities, countries, and regions. Scholars attend a series of workshops, courses, and fieldwork in addition to the courses for their degrees. 

About MasterCard Foundation

The Mastercard Foundation is an international non-governmental organization established by Mastercard in 2006. The organization, which is based in Toronto, Ontario, has supported work in 49 countries.In 2018, Mastercard Foundation shifted to a specific focus on Africa, through its Young Africa Works strategy. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program provides Full Scholarships


Requirements for American University of Beirut Mastercard Foundation Graduate Scholarship Qualification

On-campus masters' scholarships are open to young people who are:

  1. Citizens of countries on the African Continent
  2. Citizens of Lebanon
  3. Refugees living in Lebanon or on the African Continent

PhD scholarships are open to:

  1. Citizens of countries on the African Continent
  2. Refugees living on the African Continent

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS

  • 35 years or younger
  • Strong academic standing in their previous degree
  • Talent that exceeds financial resources?
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to community engagement?
  • Commitment to attend ?additional learning experiences and workshops required by the Scholars Program
  • Demonstration of Readiness for University Studies in English (RUSE) by May 31, 2026.

Tests that you can submit: AUB-EN test, TOEFL IBT, IELTS (Academic), GRE (Verbal), GMAT (Verbal), or DUOLINGO English Test (DET).

How to Apply

  • Step 1Complete an AUB online graduate application and upload supporting documents by the deadline.
  • Step 2: Select Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program under the Financial Opportunities section of the online graduate application.
  • Step 3 (not required for PhD): Complete the AUB Financial Aid Application, which will be accessible after you submit your online graduate application. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: For an application to be considered complete, applicants must have completed (1) the AUB online graduate application and (2) the AUB Financial Aid Application.
