The Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition invites undergraduates across Nigeria to participate in the 2025 edition, offering an opportunity to address critical mental health issues.
This annual event honours the memory of Miss Jemila Abubakar, the pioneer programme manager of the Asido Foundation, who dedicated her efforts to mental health advocacy before passing in July 2020.
The theme for this year’s competition is “Bridging the Gap: Innovative Solutions for Mental Health Support in African Tertiary Institutions”.

- Applicants should be an undergraduate in any Nigerian tertiary institution
- Applicants must be able to provide proof of studentship
- Applicants must sign the Asido Foundation's Unashamed pledge (asidofoundation.com/unashamed)

- The essay word count should range from a minimum of 750 and a maximum of 1000 words
- The essay should be in the Microsoft Word Doc format
- You are required to upload a scanned copy of a recent photograph, proof of studentship and a certificate of your unashamed pledge.
- Submitting an AI-generated essay and plagiarism in ANY FORM will lead to automatic disqualification
