Canon Japan-Africa Research Programme 2025

The Japan-Africa Programme offers grants to post-graduate scholars from Japan and Africa who want to do research in African Studies in Africa and Japan respectively. The Programme is intended to support Researchers from Japan to carry out research at institutes in African universities and Researchers from Africa to carry out research at institutes in Japanese universities.

Aim and Benefits of Canon Foundation Research Programme

Stipend and Travel Expenses:The financial support for successful applicants ranges from 22,500 Euro to 27,500 Euro per year and is pro-rated for different periods.


Requirements for Canon Foundation Research Programme Qualification

Applicants should hold at least an MA degree

Applicants must be from Africa or Japan Nationality

How to Apply

Applying is done by submitting the following documents by email to the Canon Foundation Secretariat at [email protected]

  • Your research plan including a clear title at the top of the page as well as starting/ending dates of the proposed research. The research plan must include a general cost estimate, including living, travel, insurance, research costs, etc. (maximum 2 pages). There is no rule for the size of the font which can be used
  • 2 reference letters from 2 persons who are in a position to comment on your academic qualifications and professional work
  • 1 confirmation letter from your prospective host professor confirming they will provide research and/or work facilities to you during the proposed period
  • Your Curriculum Vitae
  • 1 copy of your doctoral certificate or your highest academic degree
  • 1 passport size photograph of yourself
  • 1 list of your academic publications or professional achievements in chronological order containing information on all authors, place and year of publication and page references.
