Applicants come from countries in the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states as well as eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries. Students in any subject area are eligible to apply, if they demonstrate excellent academic merit, already study in Germany, are committed to the values of social democracy and live by them.

Sponsored students receive material and non-material support so that they have no financial worries during their studies and have more time for their volunteering.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is the oldest political foundation in Germany with a rich tradition in social democracy dating back to its foundation in 1925. The foundation owes its formation and its mission to the political legacy of its namesake Friedrich Ebert, the first democratically elected German President. Aim and Benefits of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Scholarship in Germany

  • 934 € per month (students) / 1,200 € per month (postgraduates)
  • 276 € of family allowance, if applicable
  • Refund of health care costs
  • Any income exceeding 400 € per month will be credited against the scholarship.

     


Requirements for Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Scholarship in Germany Qualification

  • Student groups that are particularly important:

    Women, students from STEM subjects, students at universities of applied sciences, first-time graduates (= students who are the first person in their family to attend higher education), students from immigrant families

    They expect: 

  • Enrollment at a state or state-recognized university, higher education institution or university of applied sciences
  • Proof of sufficient German language skills
  • Good performance in school or with course of studies
  • Socio-political commitment
  • Identification with the fundamental values of social democracy
  • Requirements for foreign students:

  • You are already studying in Germany at the time of your application.
  • Bachelor's students must submit their first graded performance records.
  • German language skills are absolutely necessary and must be proven.
