King's College London Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS) (UK) 2023

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are for candidates from eligible low and middle income Commonwealth countries, to undertake full-time taught Master’s study at a UK university.

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Shared Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.

These scholarships are offered under CSC six development themes:

  1. Science and technology for development
  2. Strengthening health systems and capacity
  3. Promoting global prosperity
  4. Strengthening global peace, security and governance
  5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises
  6. Access, inclusion and opportunity

About King's College London

King's College London was founded by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington (then Prime Minister) in 1829 as a university college in the tradition of the Church of England. Aim and Benefits of Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)

Applicants for master’s programmes at King’s College London are normally required to pay an admissions application fee, however, if you are applying for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS) opportunity, you can have this fee waived.


Requirements for Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS) Qualification

To apply for these scholarships, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2023
  • By September 2023, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
  • Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK university without this Scholarship
  • Apply as instructed (see 'Application Process' below) and have provided all supporting documentation in the required format by the given deadlines 

In addition, applicants must:

  • Meet the relevant entry requirements for their chosen degree programme and be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course
  • Be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as the period of study is complete


Interview date, Process and Venue for Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)

Eligible applications will be reviewed by King's College London, and King's will nominate selected candidates to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) by no later than 13 March 2023. The CSC will then consider and confirm whether the candidates meet the eligibility criteria for this scheme. Candidates should expect to receive a decision by July 2023.

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  • Academic merit of the candidate
  • Quality of the plan of study
  • Potential impact on the development of the candidate’s home country

To apply, candidates MUST submit the following:

  • By the deadline of 16:00 (UK Time) on 13 December 2022, apply to the CSC via the CSC’s online application system. For further details, click here.

AND

NB: applicants are encouraged to submit both applications as soon as possible. Failure to meet the respective application deadlines (given above) means that the applicant will be ineligible and won’t be considered for the scholarship opportunity.
