Applicatiosn are now open for the University of Michigan 2025 Federal Need-based Grants. Beginning in 2024-2025, students eligible for this federal scholarship will instead be awarded a maximum Federal Pell Grant, regardless of their calculated SAI.

Requirements for Federal Need-based Grants Qualification
- Eligibility determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Undergraduate; first bachelor's degree
- Eligibility is based, in part, on student enrollment at the beginning of a semester. If a student withdraws or receives a non-passing grade for a class, we must confirm that the student attended at least one session of that class. If you did not attend a class for which you withdrew or received a non-passing grade your Federal Pell funding will be reduced.

Terms of Grant:
- Based on need
- Grant amounts and maximums vary
- Grant amount is reduced for less than full-time enrollment. Eligibility is reviewed each term at the add/drop deadline.
- Cannot receive for more than 12 full-time semesters
- There is an annual Federal Pell limit. Students enrolled full-time for fall/winter terms will use their annual limit in these terms. Students may have spring/summer eligibility depending upon enrollment.
