2025 KAAD Scholarship Program 1

The KAAD is the scholarship program of the Catholic Church in Germany for postgraduates and researchers from (developing) countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Near and Middle East, and Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

Through scholarships, educational events, and personal and spiritual guidance, it supports its scholarship holders with a view to multiplying their work in their home countries. This is done in cooperation with partner committees and associations of former scholarship holders in these countries, with the goal of building (academic) networks and contributing to holistic development that includes the religious and interreligious dimension.

Aim and Benefits of KAAD Postgraduate Scholarship

Requirements for KAAD Postgraduate Scholarship Qualification

You can apply for the KAAD Scholarship Program 1 if you:

  • come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America and are currently staying there,
  • have a university degree and professional experience in your home country
  • would like to complete a Master's degree, a postgraduate course, a doctorate, a post-doc or a research stay (2-6 months for scientists) at a German university and
  • of the Catholic faith (especially those from the Near and Middle East who generally belong to a Christian faith). Applicants of other religions may be supported if they are nominated by Catholic partners with a documented willingness to engage in interreligious dialogue.
  • already have knowledge of the German language before entering the country (the KAAD can provide for a German course of max. 6 months in Germany).
