The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) of UNIDO, supported by the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund, champions the next generations of cleantech innovators to deliver sustainable solutions for climate challenges, just energy transition and low-carbon sustainable development.

GCIP supports UNIDO's climate action agenda by accelerating high-impact cleantech innovations, promoting sustainable and low-emission industries and fostering international collaboration, including through the South-South and Triangular Cooperation. By focusing on innovation growth, emissions reduction and just transitions, GCIP promotes inclusive and sustainable industrial development. About United Nations

The English language component of the Indigenous Fellowship Programme (IFP) was established in 1997. It takes place at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland and lasts for 4 weeks, usually coinciding with the annual meeting of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP). Aim and Benefits of UNIDO Global Cleantech Innovation Programme

  • GCIP offers comprehensive support to micro, small and medium sized enterprises, as these MSMEs are the backbone of emerging and developing economies, to help them bring their solutions to market.
  • GCIP directly supports cleantech innovators through business acceleration training, mentorship, networking and financing facilitation.
  • GCIP also helps partner countries strengthen their national innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
  • GCIP builds capacities of national institutions and contributes to the formulation of inclusive national policy frameworks as well as creates partnerships between stakeholders in the public, private and academic sectors.

Requirements for UNIDO Global Cleantech Innovation Programme Qualification

  • The primary direct beneficiaries of GCIP are early-stage start-ups and SMEs developing innovative cleantech solutions in the following areas: energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste beneficiation, water efficiency, green buildings, transportation, advanced materials and chemicals.
  • GCIP also provides support to national government institutions in the partner countries, R&D organizations, industry associations and other stakeholders involved in the development of cleantech innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems.
