Application for Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Scholarship will open on August 20th
The Scholarship Department of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung awards financial grants to highly-qualified undergraduate and doctoral students from Germany and abroad who evidence high levels of social and political engagement. In granting scholarships, the Stiftung seeks to counteract the social, political and gender discrimination prevalent in our society, and therefore gives preference to applications from women, students of non-academic and migrant backgrounds, the socially needy, and people with disabilities who demonstrate comparable achievements and commitment. Applications from undergraduate and doctoral students from scientific and technical disciplines are actively encouraged, as well as from graduates of technical colleges.

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung is one of the six major political foundations in the Federal Republic of Germany, tasked primarily with conducting political education both at home and abroad. The foundation is closely linked to Die Linke, the German Left Party.

Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Scholarship
Aim and Benefits of Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Scholarship
- Domestic Students - Monthly stipend €300 , abroad fees also funded.
- International Students - Monthly stipend €934 , additional supplements added.
- Doctoral Students - €1,450 per month, monthly research allowance.
Requirements for Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Scholarship Qualification
Domestic Students
- You can apply for the study scholarship for domestic students if you belong to the group of people according to BAföG § 8 (see www.gesetze-im-internet.de/baf_g/__8.html ) – this applies to Germans and foreigners with BAföG eligibility. You must generally be eligible for BAföG.
- You can be enrolled at a university in Germany, or at a university in an EU country or in Switzerland. The university can be a traditional university or a university of applied sciences and must be either state-run or state-recognized.
They can receive funding from the 2nd semester onwards.
- Bachelor's degree program : Funding is possible if at least half of the standard period of study remains at the start of the funding period. Only the Bachelor's degree or, if desired, the combination of Bachelor's and Master's degrees counts.
- Diploma, Master's or State Examination degree program at a university: Funding is possible if at least 4 semesters of the standard period of study remain at the start of the funding period.
- University of Applied Sciences: Funding possible if all other criteria are met.
- Dual study programs: Funding possible, with the training allowance being credited towards the scholarship.
- Master's degree: Funding possible if studies begin in the winter semester
If you are already in your second semester of a Master's program by the application deadline of October 1st , you can apply to us if it is a four-semester Master's program. Funding would then be possible for the third and fourth semesters, provided you are awarded a scholarship.
International Students
Only foreign nationals can apply for the scholarship for international students .
- Enrollment (if not already held: at least one admission) at a state or state-recognized university in Germany
- Proof of a completed Bachelor's degree or completed basic studies if you are studying in a diploma, Master's or state examination program.
- Very good academic performance
- Social or political engagement in line with the principles of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation
- Very good German skills (B2 level) - proof required
- You must not have been in Germany for more than 15 months at the time of application. Exception: You have already studied in Germany – e.g., obtained a Bachelor's degree – or have specifically prepared for university studies.
- You must be residing in Germany for the purpose of studying.
Lux Like Scholarship
You can apply for the Lux like scholarship program if

- They do not have an academic educational background.
- You have already completed your (specialized) high school diploma and would like to study.
- You will soon be completing your (specialized) high school diploma and would like to study.
- They are interested or engaged in socio-political and social issues.
- You have not yet started your studies and your studies will only begin in the semester after the application deadline.

Selection and sponsorship criteria include:
- High scholarly and professional qualifications (proof of above-average academic achievement at school and/or university)
- Political and social engagement in line with the aims of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung
- German language proficiency (B2 level or above)
- Personal/family background
